Call to protect wetlands of Sindh’
The Friends of Indus Forum has called up on to the government to improve the situation of wetlands in Sindh particularly Keenjhar and Manchar Lake. This was stated by the Forum at a meeting held at Keenjhar Lake. The meting was presided over by President of Forum Naseer Memon, while General Secretary Nasir Ali Panhwar briefed the forum about major achievements. more

IESC Visits Pai
The sub committee of Indus Ecoregion steering committee headed by the Secretary Forest and Wildlife Department Mushtaque Ali Memon visited the Pai Forest. The committee took stock of the various challenges being faced by the Forest including shortage of water, encroachment of forest area and watering points for wildlife. more

Thatta Dec 9: The speakers at the stakeholders seminar on rehabilitation of Jubho wetland have called for immediate release of water to avert the human and ecological crisis. They said that people of delta are facing twin menace including sea intrusion and lack of fresh water. more

He said that due to upstream hydrographic modifications on Indus, rapid urbanization, overpopulation, deforestation and pollution numerous environmental challenges are being faced.more

Role of media in raising environmental awareness highlighted.
The seventeen member delegation of Forum of Environmental Journalists (FEJP) Lahore visited Keenjhar Lake to witness the issues being faced by the Lake. The visit was organized by WWF. The delegation visited village Aaz Mohammad Jakhro and observed various interventions including bio gas plants, no cutting zone of typha reeds, no hunting zone of birds, nursery established by Indus for All Programme- WWF Pakistan in collaboration with partner community organization. more

Hyderabad:The Univeristy of Sindh Jamshoro and Worldwide fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF Pakistan) have come together to address environmental and developmental issues in Sindh. Mr. Mazhar ul Haq Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Jamshoro and Dr. Ghulam Akbar, Regional Director, WWF Pakistan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of their respective organizations at Jamshoro campus. more

Communities in Sindh Observe a Massive Plantation Campaign
Local communities in Sindh planted 120,000 trees during the national plantation campaign observed in the country on 18 August 2009. This community plantation initiative was supported by the Indus for All Programme of WWF Pakistan in three districts of Sindh including Thatta, Shaheed Banazirabad (formerly Nawabshah) and Sanghar. More than 30 local NGOs and community-based organizations and 10 schools took part in the campaign. more

Honorary District Game Wardens in Sindh Trained to Promote Wildlife Protection in the Province
Karachi: 18 August 2009.10 Honorary District Game Wardens representing 10 districts of Sindh received one-day training in effective wildlife management, organized by the Indus for All Programme of WWF Pakistan in collaboration with the Sindh Wildlife Department, Government of Sindh. The training introduced the participants to various prospects and challenges of wildlife conservation in the Province, in addition to reiterating and clarifying their role in wildlife conservation. more

Three-Day Training Workshop on EIA held for District Government Officials.

Indus for All Programme organized three day training workshop on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for District Government officials. During the workshop an introduction of Indus for All Programme was made by the Programme Coordinator, Nasir Ali Panhwar. The training covered various aspects of EIA including core concepts of EIA, stakeholders and their role, EIA process and contents, scope of EIA report, critical evaluation of EIA report.more
